Improving the performances of ultrasonic motors using intermittent contact scheme

Jiamei JIN, Jianhui ZHANG, Fu QIAN, Zhenfeng PAN,

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2010, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 242-246 doi: 10.1007/s11465-010-0016-y

Abstract: Most ultrasonic motors operate in intermittent contact scheme. Their stators drive the rotors (or sliders) when the stators contact the rotors, and the rotors (or sliders) move under an inertia force when the stators and the rotors are separated. The duty cycle of the contact and the “flight” manages motors’ output performance. To obtain a large output force or output velocity, this paper proposes a concept using the alternative work of a multi-stator or the multi-driving end of a single stator. The method can avoid larger noise, poor efficiency, and lifetime of motors. A novel linear ultrasonic motor using the alternative work of the multi-driving end of a single stator was fabricated and investigated experimentally. The traveling speed without load of the slider is 88 mm/s, and the maximum load is 0.32 N.

Preparation and adsorption performances of mesopore-enriched bamboo activated carbon

WANG Yuxin, LIU Congmin, ZHOU Yaping

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2008, Volume 2, Issue 4,   Pages 473-477 doi: 10.1007/s11705-008-0081-5

Abstract: Activated carbon with high specific surface area and considerable mesopores was prepared from bamboo scraps by phosphoric acid activation. The effect of activation conditions was studied. Under the conditions of impregnating bamboo with 80% HPO at 80°C for 9 days and activation at 500°C for 4 h, the prepared activated carbon had the highest mesopore volume of 0.67 cm/g, a specific surface area of 1567 m/g, and the mesopore ratio reached 47.18%. The study on adsorption isotherms of CH, CO, N and O on the activated carbon were carried out at 298 K. The considerable difference in the adsorption capacity between CO and the other gases was observed, which would be of interest for the adsorptive separation/purification of gaseous CO from its mixtures, especially from mixtures with N and/or O.

The prediction technology study of fatigue life for key parts of a tracked vehicle’s suspension system

WANG Hongyan, RUI Qiang, HE Xiaojun

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2007, Volume 2, Issue 1,   Pages 68-71 doi: 10.1007/s11465-007-0011-0

Abstract: In allusion to fatigue life of a tracked vehicle torsion bar, a virtual prototype model of the tracked vehicle suspension system including a flexible torsion bar was built based on dynamic simulation software ADAMS. Node force and stress results of the torsion bar from last step simulation were acquired; taking into account the material characteristics and influential factors, fatigue life of the flexible body of the torsion bar was predicted. Engineering results can be acquired through the contrast of the result of virtual test and statistical fatigue.

Enhanced performances in catalytic oxidation of

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2016, Volume 10, Issue 3,   Pages 458-466 doi: 10.1007/s11783-015-0802-1

Abstract: A series of hierarchical macro-/mesoporous silica supports (MMSs) were successfully synthesized using dual-templating technique employing polystyrene (PS) spheres and the Pluronic P123 surfactant. Pd was next loaded on the hierarchical silica supports via colloids precipitation method. Physicochemical properties of the synthesized samples were characterized by various techniques and all catalysts were tested for the total oxidation of -xylene. Among them, the Pd/MMS-b catalyst with tetraethoxysilane/polystyrene weight ratio of 1.0 exhibited superior catalytic activity, and under a higher gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 70000 h , the 90% conversion of -xylene has been obtained at around 200°C. The BET and SEM results indicated that Pd/MMS-b catalyst possesses high surface area and large pore volume, and well-ordered, interconnected macropores and 2D hexagonally mesopores hybrid network. This novel ordered hierarchical porous structure was highly beneficial to the dispersion of active sites Pd nanoparticles with less aggregation, and facilitates diffusion of reactants and products. Furthermore, the Pd/MMS-b catalyst possessed good stability and durability.

Analytical study on damping performances of magnetorheological grease damper based on disk squeeze mode

Danxia ZHAO, Changrong LIAO, Qiong LIU, Jing LUO

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2011, Volume 6, Issue 3,   Pages 312-317 doi: 10.1007/s11465-011-0235-x

Abstract:

In this paper, a small displacement-type magnetorheological grease (MRG) damper based on disk squeeze mode is proposed. The squeeze flow differential equation is obtained. The Navier slip condition is considered on the surfaces and the boundary compatible condition is established. The radial velocity profiles and the radial pressure distributions are derived respectively, and the mathematical stress expression is calculated. To verify rationality of analytical method, the MRG damper is designed and fabricated according to the technical requirements of an engine vibration isolation system. The experimental damping force from MTS870 Electro-hydraulic Servo with sine wave excitation shows that the proposed analytical method is feasible and provides the reference value for designing MRG damper based on disk squeeze mode.
